How to Form A New Habit
January 25, 2008 |
Recently, I have been talking about habit and its power. If you missed them, here they are again (in order)
Today, I"ll be sharing about how we develop a new habit and its importance.
“Human is a creature of habits†– T. Harv Eker
Habit is form when we begin to do something regularly and consistently.
I have a friend who got a pack of dental floss from somewhere (maybe from a hotel or restaurant) When he got home, he put the dental floss somewhere near his bed.
Every morning, when he wakes up, the first thing he sees is that pack of the floss and automatically, he will floss his teeth. After a while he finds himself developing a habit of flossing his teeth every morning.
Guess what? He began to buy several packs of dental floss when the free floss has finished.
Can you see how easily it is to develop a new habit?
If you want to develop a new habit, do it consistently for the next 30 days. Forget about the amount. The habit is more important than the amount.
Let"s say you want to visualize your goals for half an hour a day. Do it! If you can not concentrate, if you can not see or feel what you are visualizing or if you hate it, JUST DO IT! No more procrastination!
Develop the habit first. Once you have the habit, things will be much easier for you.
Once you have developed the habit of visualization, you"ll begin to see the power of the Law of Attraction.
The same thing goes for saving money. If you find yourself not being able to develop this habit, try to put some money into your piggy bank or your fund everyday. Forget about the amount first.
You can put as little as a dollar or a penny into your piggy bank. Again the amount is not that important at first. As you do this for 30 days, without fail, you"ll develop a new money saving habit.
Whatever habit you want to develop, do it consistently for 30 days. If you miss out one day or more, start the challenge all over again. This is crucial.
Now, set some habits that you want to form and share it with me. Your next step should be taking the action and start your 30 day challenge.

Hi Raymond,
Thanks for this another good article will try implementing it. You’re right about procrastination the time thief. Still making plan as there’re so many things I’ve yet to decide. Hopefully I can make all these into a new habits. What if one can do less than 30 days? Just wondering, thanks again for today post.
Hi Rose,
To overcome that problem, perhaps one can try to reward him/herself for being able to get on track everyday.
At the same time, surround him/herself with the people who has the same objective and commitment.
That really helps a lot. It’s called mass psychology.
You’re definetely right Raymond. I’m not truly (not yer) LOA practitioner, in fact there are a lot of holes need patching within my self, but I agree about this. 30 days is enough to develop the habit.
Btw, I love reading you posts consecutively. Usually you write related topic in few days. I tried to implement that too in my blog soon (hopefully)
Hi Zaki,
We are all learning everyday. I hope you have the habit of reading and commenting on this blog too.
I’m sure that you already have the habit of blogging everyday by now.
My new habit will be to read your blog everyday for the positive input you give Raymond. Thank you! And just to prove it I will make a small comment to each and everyone of your posts, like it or not Ha ha
With my warmest regards,
Benjamin

Hi Zaki,
You guys rocks!
Thank you for participating.
These are good tips. Look simple but it’s great information! Thanks!
Hi Alex,
I’m happy that you appreciate that.
Thanks for coming.
Hi Raymond,
Great article! I’m going to work on this with some of the habits I’ve been trying to form. I’m going to make a list of a few habits and see if I can maintain those habits through the month of February. There’s only 29 days in Feb, but I’m sure that will be okay.
Hey Colby,
With some commitment and passion, I believe that you can make it.
All the best to your 29 Day Challenge.
Am excellent article. If you have been to one of T Harv Eker’s seminars then you know about his money management system of putting money into different accounts and he says the same thing; don’t fret about the amount, just do it so you develop the habit.
Hi Brian,
I was thinking of Harv’s words while I was writing this post.
I love the jars’ concept and I actually apply it until now. It’s just wonderful.
I just wanted to let you know that I talked about this blog post at one of our company meetings. I’m on our wellness committee and I was talking about forming new habits and mentioned your post. I plan on emailing this link to all of our employees. We’re a small company of about 50, but hopefully a few people click on the link and read your article.
Hi Colby,
I’m so pleased to read what you have just said above.

Hi Floroskop,
