Why Didn’t I Do It Myself

Tell you what. I have received an interesting question from a reader as a feedback to the “The First Baby Step” article.

Here’s the question that she had sent to me:

Dear Raymond,

Thanks for today’s article on your blog. Something is bugging me after reading your article. You keep on blaming your friend for not taking the appropriate action (which is to start a business) but you never mention about yourself.

It is easier to said than done.

If you think the idea is good. Why not you do it yourself. Please answer. I’m eager to read your reply.

Well, that was a tough question and I believe some of you might ask the same question in your head too.

Here’s my reply to her email:

Hi _______,

First of all, I’m sorry for annoying or offending you in any way.

Secondly, my purpose is not to blame my friends but rather use it as an example to express my point of view which is, successful person turns coal into diamond and vice versa.

Third, actually I have my own business at that point of time and I give 100% of my focus and commitment to the business.

I started the business with the capital of LESS than $200 with no knowledge and skills but armed with commitment, passion and a clear dream.

I had to admit that things didn’t go well all the time and there are time where I face with financial crisis, lacking of skills and do not know how to handle certain problem and so on.

However, deep inside, I believed that I do not need to wait everything to be perfect to get started. I just have to maximize and optimize all the resources that I already have.

I learn my skills through trial and error and it’s quite disheartening to lose some of my businesses due to the lack of skills. But the lesson I learned from my failure has helped me to earn much more money in the future.

Within the first few months, the income from my part time business (I was still studying in university) has exceeded more than double the salary of a fresh graduate.

That’s why I always encourage my friends to shut up, setup their own business and make the money rather than complaining of not having enough money.

The purpose of my reply is not to brag but rather to let you know that I walk my talk.
